For this project, we had to look at drapes which were draped over stools. We could focus on one part of the stool or all of it. When I started drawing it, I found it extremely difficult and I was focusing a lot on little details. But when I did that I ended up getting frustrated and not liking my work, so I started rushing it to finish at least a main part, and then put more details on it later. However, I found that when I started going faster and just drawing what I saw, that I liked my product a lot better. I had to work with myself on this because I had never worked with graphite before and it was a difficult thing to get started drawing. But once I got going, I liked it a lot better.
For this project, there were many steps. First, we had to prime our papers with gesso. Then, we painted over them using red paint. on top of that, we used chalk to sketch out our pears and tables, and then started painting. There was a main color scheme we had to stay with when painting the pears, so slowly we added on more paint to get them how we wanted them. For the backgrounds and tables, we could pick whatever colors we wanted, but the shadow of the pear had to be the opposite on the color wheel of the table for that pear. To finish, we added our stems. For this project I worked a lot on my patience with my artwork because I do not have much experience painting and it was kind of difficult to get used to.
For this project, we had to pick out cookie cutters or whatever we wanted, and cut out clay slabs. We then got to decorate them however we wanted and put holes in them before they were fired in the kiln. Once they were fired, we could decorate them with markers or whatever else we wanted. After that we put strings on them and they were complete. We got to be very creative for this project because we could do whatever we wanted really.
For this project, we had to choose something and carve it into a linoleum block using carving tools. After that, we had to print it onto paper by rolling ink onto it. We needed a few different variations, so I have my plain black and white one, my one on water colors, and one on blue paper using different colored inks. My favorite part of this project was printing because we could finally see what we worked hard on carving would come out as, and we could get creative with it. My least favorite part is probably how my printings didn't come out exactly how I wanted, especially the one with the colored ink how it is smudged, but I still like it. My inspiration for this project for the fish was that I like fish and at the summer I did a lot of fishing, and I have been also spending a lot of time by the Charles River or anywhere with water recently, so I love to see the fish. If I could do something different with this project it would probably be to make it more detailed because I think the detailed ones came out really cool. Nothing surprised me about this artwork but it was really fun to do and see how it came out.
For this project, we had to take a paper, make a border with tape, and create a grid, each square being 1in.x1in. We then put a grid over a printed black and white picture of ourselves, and then drew ourselves square by square using the picture using several different values while looking at the printed photo, until we completed the full picture. My favorite part of this project was slowly seeing how it came along, especially the few features that could really be matched to myself. My favorite part is my eyes. before I drew anything below it, it looked a lot more like me. My least favorite part is my mouth. I struggled with it and redrew it many times, and I never really got it how I wanted it. I struggled with the nose a bit too. If I could change something about the project I probably would have focused more on harder parts such as the mouth first because at the end it was the determining factor and it was annoying to keep doing because I was anxious to get it done and see the final product and if it looked like me. I learned how to be patient with my artwork during this project because it wasn't something you could rush, but you really wanted to see the final product too. What surprised me the most about this project was probably how much using the squares really helped. When you only focus on one part of the picture, it makes it a lot easier to draw. Usually the eyes never would have looked that much like me when you cover up everything below it, but they do because of going along drawing square by square. Overall, I enjoyed this project.
For this project, we paper mached masks with paper towels onto molds. When they dried, we took them off and painted them how we wanted. This project as well had little guidelines, so we were able to create original art and expand artistic abilities. For my mask, I pictured it black initially instead of white, so I decided to make mine black. I put many colors on it so they stood out and it was colorful. I ended up taking risks because I didn't always know what I was doing or how it would come out but I did it anyway.
For this project, we had to cut pieces out with an x acto knife and put them on the outside. I got to create original art and build my artistic abilities.
For this project, we had no guidelines or limitations. It just had to be multiple hands and not just one. While making this, I developed art making skills and created original art, all from my own brain. I also took risks with this project with the outside edges being the watercolors. I really had no intentions, just went for it and watched it become something before my eyes.
These were the drawings we had to do when we first started the basics of drawing. For the left photo, "R Mode vs. L Mode" we had to try to draw the other half of the picture to match as evenly as possible with the given side. For the right photo, Upside Down Man, we had to put a piece of paper over an outline, upside down, and move the paper down inch by inch, only drawing that section, one at a time. We did not know what the drawing was of until after drawing it. Working on these drawings, I worked on my artistic abilities. I also worked on patience with my art work, because it was not an easy thing to do.
For this project, we had to pick one of the acetate hands to draw out and shade with graphite. I developed my art making skills because I had a difficult time drawing out the hand and trying to figure out where to place the lines. I had also never tried shading with graphite before and choosing where to shade lighter or darker. It was a good skill to pick up for future art projects.
